Doing Your Best is More Important
I was reading about Cathy Rigby. She was a gymnast in the 1972 Olympic games. She had one goal in mind - To win a gold medal and be the best gymnast in the world.
She did well but she didn't win. She was crushed. She went over to her parents in the stands and she cried. She said, "Mom, I'm so sorry. I really wanted to win. I even prayed that I would win. And I didn't."
Her mom said, "Cathy! Listen to me! You did your best! We love you just the same. We're proud of you no matter what." Then her mom said ten words that changed her life forever: "Doing your best is more important than being the best."
That's still true today. Do your best and leave the rest to God. Don't worry about being the best parent, or the best student, or even the best Christian. You have enough challenges in your life without beating yourself up because someone else does something better than you. Just be yourself! Find out what you like. Find out what you're good at. And do it the best you can!
That's what the Bible teaches! Colossians 3:23 says, "Whatever you do, do it with all of yourheart, as if you were working for the Lord. Not for men." Don't worry about what your friends think. Don't worry about what the kids at school think. Don't worry about what the neighbors think. You aren't living for them. You're living for Him. (Marc Axelrod)
